Unica4EU

European

UNICA4EU was a European initiative dedicated to combating childhood cancer through the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The project aimed to map the landscape of AI applications in pediatric oncology to enhance care pathways across Europe. A central achievement of UNICA4EU was the creation of a comprehensive Knowledge Base—a centralized hub that consolidated initiatives, datasets, and AI solutions related to pediatric cancer. This platform facilitated data sharing and integration among healthcare professionals, AI experts, and policymakers, promoting collaboration and the exploration of new opportunities.

The initiative emphasized the development of bespoke use cases, best practices, and guidelines to ensure secure AI interventions in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of childhood cancers. By addressing challenges such as data fragmentation and unconnected silos, UNICA4EU sought to harmonize clinical and technical perspectives within pediatric cancer pathways. The project also focused on building a diverse community to share knowledge and nurture collaboration, thereby strengthening the European pediatric cancer ecosystem.

Humanitas Research Hospital was among the 15 partners from eight European countries that collaborated on UNICA4EU. Together, these partners bridged the gap between cutting-edge AI and healthcare expertise in pediatric oncology, contributing to impact creation and community building.
